Tried everything you proposed, still cannot change paper size on the control panel in order to copy . The message says Copy does not support 4x5 in. I do not have a problem printing from my mac. It is just when I try using the copy mode using the control panel on the printer to copy

Follow the steps below-
Open and close the paper tray, you'd receive a prompt to change the paper settings and you can change the settings from the printer front panel.
Also, Update the printer firmware
Download available firmware updates from the HP website
With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
