HP OfficeJet 3833
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a problem with my new HP OfficeJet 3833. I can't connect it to my wireless.

This is my situation and what I've already tried:

 - Linksys WAG200G DSL Wireless Router with:
    - "WPA personal" otpion selected and its password;
    - "Allow all" in the security tab of the router (so no MAC resctrict list enabled);
    - DHCP enables;
    - the router device in the same room of the printer device.
The wireless net works properly with my smartphone and laptop.

OS: Window 10 64bit with all the latest hp drivers installed (from http://123.hp.com/ registering my device)

Problem:
If I connect the printer to the pc through usb cable it works.

If I try to connect to the wireless it doesn't.

I've tried in two ways:

 1) from the printer: wizard wireless setup, it founds my SSID and when I select and input the WPA password doesn't work and after a while prints the error "CAUTION: it could be a MAC filter on the router".

 2) from the pc (hp utility software): I select "switch from usb cable to wireless", it gets the SSID/password from PC (which are correct) and when trying to connect it prints the same error like in the case 1).

I've already tried to disable the wifi password and even switch to WPA2 but nothing.

I can't figure out what is the problem.
Hope you can help me,

thank you in advance

Thank you very much David for your answer!

The printer is new and I've never connected it before.

I've already done and checked everything you suggested me.

I got a newest linksys router and it worked imediately. Now I can use my printer from everywhere (window, ubuntu and mobile devices).

Maybe was just a problem of my router. Eventually I will try to make a firmware update.

Thank you again,

Alessandro

Hi @alerougex,

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums. After reading your post I see that you require assistance regarding connecting the printer to the wireless network. It will be a delight to assist you here.

Superb analysis and brilliant diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.

  • Has it connected before?
  • Did you disable Mac filtering on the router and check again?
  • Or did you try to add the printer to the Mac filtering list on the router and check if it gets fixed?

This needs to be done on the Linksys Router.

  • Please disable Mac filtering and check again.
  • Otherwise, add the printer to the Mac filtering list on the router page as the router is blocking the printer from connecting.
  • This printer operates primarily in 802.11b/g mode with 2.4 GHz. It could be possible that the router is in 5.0 GHz and that needs to be changed. The channel should preferably be set to 11.
  • You can log in to the router EWS page and change wireless mode to 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g and check for the issue resolution. Contact the ISP if unsure about the steps.

  • Please ensure that the router broadcasts at 2.4 GHz Band and the wireless mode is B/G. These are the modes and bands in which the printer gets recognized and operates correctly.
  • Also check that the router channel is set to 1, 6 or 11. (preferably 11)
  • Temporarily disable all firewalls and security software.
  • Once you disable Mac filtering on the router or add the printer’s IP address to the list of devices controlled by Mac filtering on the router, you could try all the relevant steps to set up the printer on the wireless network from this link: http://hp.care/2BzD1nm
  • To use Mac filtering and disable it or add the printer to its list you need to contact your ISP or the router manufacturer who set up the router for you.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient. Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Based on your previous post, I deduced that it was your Router and gave you the steps that would have fixed the issue. We worked as a team and the moment the router was changed and you ran the wireless setup the printer connected to all the devices on the network. This nailed it.
