cannot print

Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

Hello, I send documents to print but although the printer is connected, no printing. The error message tells me "unable to communicate with the printer" I can photocopy documents okay, so the problem is with my computer and printer not speaking to each other. Help please!
