Product: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw
Operating System: macOS 10.13 High Sierra

hp color laserjet mfp m283fdw , Mac os 10.13.6. 

Printer idle shows green light; but when i send a print job it switches to yellow; message: Paused. Clicking on resume results in message: printer in use then to: paused.

So please check if you are able to make a copy first, if copy works then it's not a hardware issue. So next go to System Preferences and choose printers and scanners. Please check the print queue once to check if there any previous print jobs are stuck. If not you will have to remove and add the printer back.  Make sure the printer has a blue light before you remove and re- add the printer.

I was able to make a copy. 

There are no jobs in the print queue. I removed and added the printer back.

Problem persists. I can scan and copy.

 

"Make sure the printer has a blue light before you remove and re- add the printer."

A blue light?  Where? The only lights I can observe are yellow or green (paused / idle).

 

I can print via usb however. So the problem seems to be an issue with AirPrint (persist with AirPrint and secure AirPrint)
