Specifications

Paper Handling indicate Index card is supported to the weight shown in Paper tray capacities.

Cards
200 gms (110 lb index max)
Up to 20
10

  • Index is a particular of "card paper" that is manufactured to the ISO standard for this paper type / weight.
  • Not all "card paper" is Index type paper.
  • It is important (mandatory) that the weight of the paper you are using does not exceed the weight limitation for "card".

Paper Handling > Supported cards provides the standard Index (card) supported sizes.

Supported cards

Card type
Size
Index
76.2 x 127 mm (3 x 5 in)
Index
101.6 x 152 mm (4 x 6 in)
Index
127 x 203.2 mm (5 x 8 in)
Japanese postcard
100.1 x 148.1 mm (3.94 x 5.83 in)

Need a different paper size for your Index card paper?

Paper Handling > Supported custom sizes indicates that (at the time the Spec document was released) only Mac OS supports Custom Paper Size forms.

The Windows Printer Software has been updated since the original Specification document was written.

Assuming you have installed the Full Feature Software for your printer,

If your paper meets and does not exceed the weight limitations for "card paper",

If the feature is available on your printer software,

Create and use a Custom Paper Size form.

Read and follow directions here:   Creating Custom Paper Sizes

General Example, older "Custom Paper Form" setup

Custom_Form_Index_Card_6x8.jpgCustom_Form_Index_Card_6x8

General Suggestions:

Use Index card paper that meets (and does not exceed) the weight requirement for this paper type.

Create a Custom Paper Size from from an existing Index card size.

Select (in Printing Preferences / Properties / Print Dialog) the appropriate settings:

Media (kind of paper) = Index  (or, if available, "Brochure - matte" might work)

Size = Letter (your custom paper size form for this Media)

Source = Tray 1 (as opposed to Automatic or similar wording)

Duplex = Single or Duplex (depends on whether the setting is needed AND whether the setting is supported)

NOTES:

Media type and / or Paper Sizes may be set / adjusted in one of the tabs (Paper / Quality > Advanced)

If you have created a Custom Shortcut for your print settings, select that to simplify the setup.
