I have unplugged and plug . Went thru reset menu and selected semi reset.

There's no paper jam. Also, i physically tried to move carriage and it won't move freely.

Hi @wicter

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for the clear rundown—this kind of mechanical jam on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8620, especially when the carriage is locked to the far right, typically points to a stall in the carriage motor or sensor misalignment, even if no paper is visibly jammed.

Here’s a structured recovery plan tailored to your situation:

Step-by-Step Recovery for Carriage Jam (Stuck Right)

1. Power Drain Reset

Even after a semi-reset, a full power drain can help:

  • Turn off the printer
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and wall
  • Hold the Power button for 30 seconds
  • Wait 5 minutes, then reconnect and power on

2. Check for Hidden Obstructions

Open the access door and inspect:

  • Far right corner: Look for bits of torn paper, label fragments, or ink buildup
  • Use a flashlight and compressed air if needed
  • Gently try to move the carriage left—if it resists, don’t force it

3. Inspect Carriage Path and Belt

  • Look for any dislodged encoder strip (the thin transparent strip behind the carriage)
  • Check the carriage belt for slack or misalignment
  • If the belt has come off its pulley or is loose, it may need reseating or service

4. Try Manual Carriage Unlock

With the printer unplugged:

  • Open the access door
  • Gently press the carriage downward and slightly left—some models have a locking tab that releases with pressure
  • If it clicks or shifts slightly, try powering on again

5. Firmware Recovery (if accessible)

If the screen is responsive:

If the Carriage Still Won’t Move

This may indicate:

  • Carriage motor failure
  • Sensor misread due to ink overspray or debris
  • Mechanical lockout from a failed cartridge latch or docking station

You're clearly hands-on—let’s get this printer back in action.
