Photosmart 5520 printer
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)

I get error message C4EBAS341. I read the trouble-shooting instructions, opened the lid of the printer, and unplugged it. The carriage is stuck on the right side. I cannot move it. What should I do to restore the printing function?

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to reset the Printer here:

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  1. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

If the issue persists, please perform the remaining steps from this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-photosmart-5520-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5157533/document...

Let me know if this helps.

Betty0610 sent me some advice and said that I should let her know if it helps. It didn't help. I still need advice. I did everything in her list: The printer was on, because I can't turn it off. It makes no noise. All the lights on the display are blinking. I disconnected the power cord from the rear of the printer and unplugged the power cord from the wall outlet. I waited 65 seconds, and plugged the power cord back into the wall outlet. Then I reconnected the power cord to the rear of the printer. The printer was already on (since I can't turn it off). There was no noise. All the lights are blinking. The wall outlet I'm using is OK because I have other working equipment plugged into the same outlet. I then went to the website that Betty 0610 recommended. None of the advice there applied to my problem. Specifically:I can't turn off the printer. I can't print from the printer's control panel because all that appears on the panel is C4EBA341. I can't remove and reinsert the cartridges because the carriage is frozen on the right. And of course I can't print the printer status report because I can't print. Can anybody help me? Should I send this printer to the recycle?

To Betty0610: Thank you for your advice. My printer is nearly 6 years old. I used it a lot. Based on your advice, I've decided to get a new printer, rather than try to get this one repaired.
