an old HP8600 message said carriage jam: "The print carriage cannot move, Open the ink catridge access door, clear any paper jam or obstruction, and select OK. "
How to fix it? I didn't see any jam paper.

Hi linkopen,
Generally speaking it is best to store a printer with the ink cartridges installed and the carriage capped on the right hand side on the capping station. This keeps the ink cartridges sealed and protects any of the ink lines in the printer from drying out.
I would not say that the carriage cannot be empty while the power is off - but it is not a good idea for long term storage.

hi linkopen,
Here is a document that describes all of the places to look for paper, and describes how to reset the printer.
You will want to see if you can get the printer to recover from this error and print a self-test page.

Thank you for the reply and the referred document. I still couldn't find any paper jams. Probably the carriage is damaged because I bought this HP8600 Pro online as used condition. And when it arrived, it has no inks loaded into the carriage while the power is off.

Hi Ernie56,
You are new to this message string and I'm not sure you have the same issue that is being discussed here.
I'd like to help you. What error message are you getting and what printer do you have.
I will try to point you to an appropriate troubleshooting document.

I was using my HP photosmart Premium C309g and it was working fine. The next page i tried to print i got an error message "clear paper jam then hit OK" I took off the double sided printing attatchment including the other thing that connects to that. I also removed paper and used a flashligt to look everywhere for some kind of paper. None found. I opend the lid which should have put the carriage to the mid posistion but it was jammed in the right side. Now i am in a endless cycle of "remove paper jam and press ok" and "fix carriage jam and press ok" Every time i try to use the utilities it cant get passed the errors. I will be shooting this print with a .357 mag live on facebook with some scathing word about HP if i cant get some help. I bought a lot of ink from Sam's and hate to see it go to wast. I did pick up a used C6150 all in one with fax ( like anyone has a land line anymore ). PLEASE HELP I am almost certain there is a sensor somewhere that has a dust bunny in it or something. I will be taking a torks driver to it and tear it apart before putting it down.
