Hi @Rita116,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the cartridge communication error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e after a firmware update may be due to incompatibility between the printer and the installed ink cartridges. HP's firmware updates occasionally block the use of non-genuine or refilled cartridges, which could trigger such errors.

Here’s how to troubleshoot and resolve this issue:

Steps to Resolve Cartridge Communication Error

Verify Cartridge Authenticity:

  • Ensure you are using genuine HP cartridges compatible with your OfficeJet Pro 9015e printer.
  • If you're using refilled or third-party cartridges, they may no longer be supported after the firmware update. use the HP genuine cartridges

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Open the cartridge access door and remove all cartridges.
  • Clean the gold-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Reinstall the cartridges and close the access door.

Reset the Printer:

  • Disconnect the printer from the power source and wait for at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer directly into a wall outlet (avoid power strips or surge protectors).
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

Revert or Update Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • If you're using genuine cartridges and still facing issues, check for another firmware update that might address the issue.
  • To check for updates:
    • Open the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.
    • Go to Printer Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Perform a factory reset on your printer:
    • Access the printer’s menu and navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
    • Reconfigure the printer and check for improvements.
