Welcome to the HP Support Community.
If you insert your old black cartridge does the message still appear?
Let's try to reset the Printer here as it helps in removing any stored static electricity from the Printer which might be causing these issues.
- Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
- NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Also, try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.
Let me know if this helps.

Tried it. Doesn't work. Unfortunately, I don't have enough outlets to hook my printer directly to an outlet; it's on a power strip. BTW, why do cartridges have to be so specific that the fit only one printer? -- guess I know the answer: profit for the company. When I bought my first inkjet, cartridges cames in two sizes: small one: $12; large one: $20+. Now, when cartridges must be mass produced, the small one is $20+ , Thanks for the input though,.
