Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model - I cannot find any reference to a Deskjet 260.

If you have the Deskjet 460 the answers would be as follows:

A. If the color cartridge is empty and you try to print a color picture the printer will go through the motions of printing, but the page would be blank.

B.  If you force a black cartrdige into the color cartrdige position it will likely become jammed and be very difficult to remove.  Additionally, it will not work and will cause an error message.

If you have a printer with one tri-color cartridge and a black cartridge I would suggest the following:  remove the color cartrdige and print in single-cartridge model.  This would result in the printer using grayscale with the black cartridge to print a color image.  Most HP printers in the last few years that have a black and a tri-color cartridge will support single cartridge mode.

Hallo,

my printer is a HP Deskjet 2630.

It's bought (new) a few months ago.

I assume that the single-cartridge mode will work.

Thank you very much for your quick reaction.

Have a nice week-end and greetings from The Netherlands !
