Hi @Megan1094109,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your computer reports that the printer is out of paper, but the printer can still make copies, here are some steps to troubleshoot this issue:

1. Check Paper Settings on the Computer

  • Go to the printer settings on your computer and make sure the paper size and type match what you have loaded in the printer.

2. Check Paper Tray

  • Make sure the paper tray is properly seated and that the paper is loaded correctly. Sometimes, a misalignment can cause errors.

3. Update Printer Drivers

  • Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. Go to the manufacturer’s website to download and install the latest drivers.

4. Restart Both Devices

  • Turn off your printer and computer. Unplug them for a few minutes, then plug them back in and turn them on.

5. Check for Stuck Sensors

  • There may be a paper sensor that is stuck or malfunctioning. Check for any debris or dust around the paper feed area that could be causing this.

6. Run the Printer Troubleshooter (Windows)

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners. Select your printer and run the troubleshooter to diagnose and fix any issues.

7. Reinstall the Printer

  • Uninstall the printer from your computer and then reinstall it. This can sometimes resolve communication issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
