You do not state the model or anything you have tried but this is common among most printer manufacturers right now. The challenge is that most of the 5Ghz wifi chips used on printers are designed around the older 802.11 b/g/n standard and not the current 802.11 ac standard. While backwards compatibility is supposed to exist, there have been problems right across the industry. If that is the problem in your situation the easiest fix is to do one of 2 things,

1. If your router supports device channel locking, you can tell the router to only connect to the printer via the 2.4Ghz channel.

2. Or you can program the SSID for the 2.4Ghz channel to a unique identifier and only allow the printer to connect to the 2.4Ghz channel.
