Microsoft Windows 11

The copy function on Smart tank 6000 series is not working.   Ran diagnostic - everything is "fine".   The copy icon is not lit.  I rebooted the copier.   It will scan and print from file, just not copy.

Hi @Karen377

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If the copy function isn't working on your HP Smart Tank 6000 Series printer and the copy icon isn't lit, even though the printer can scan and print, here are a few steps you can follow to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

1. Check the Control Panel Settings

Sometimes, the copy feature might be disabled or hidden in the settings.

Steps:

  • Ensure you're using the correct mode for copying. Some HP printers have separate modes for printing and copying.
  • Make sure that you're not in a "Scan" mode or any other mode that might disable the copy function. If the copy icon is not lit, it might be in a different mode.
  • Try selecting the copy mode directly from the printer's home screen (if available), rather than using HP Smart or the computer.

2. Check the Ink Levels

Although the copy function doesn’t typically require full ink levels (unlike printing), ensure that your ink levels are sufficient and that there are no issues with the ink cartridges.

Steps:

  • Go to the printer's control panel, check the ink levels.
  • If any ink cartridges are low or depleted, replace them and see if the issue is resolved.

3. Reset the Printer

Sometimes, a reset can fix minor glitches that might prevent the copy function from working.

Steps:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Wait about 30 seconds.
  • Turn the printer back on and check if the copy function is working.

4. Reboot and Reconnect the Printer

If the copy icon still isn’t lighting up, try rebooting the printer again and reconnecting it to your computer or network.

Steps:

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from the power.
  • Wait a couple of minutes, then reconnect it and power it back on.
  • Check if the copy function has been restored.

5. Check for Software Issues

If you're trying to copy via HP Smart or through a computer and it's not responding, the issue might lie with the software or the connection between your printer and the device.

Steps:

  • Make sure your HP Smart app is up-to-date.
  • If using HP Smart or a scanning program, restart the application and see if it recognizes the printer correctly for copying.

I hope this helps.
