Hi @shannon1989
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP DeskJet 2300 is making a slamming or noisy sound when you try to turn it on, and it isn’t printing. This could indicate a mechanical issue with the printer’s moving parts, or it might be a problem with the cartridge or paper feed mechanism. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem:
1. Power Cycle the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute, then plug it back in and turn the printer on again.
- A simple power cycle can sometimes reset any temporary glitches causing the noise or malfunction.
2. Check for Paper Jams or Obstructions
- Turn off the printer and open the paper tray and lid.
- Carefully inspect the paper feed area for any paper jams, scraps of paper, or foreign objects that could be causing the printer to make a slamming sound.
- If you find any debris, carefully remove it. Be gentle to avoid damaging the internal components.
- Also, check for any paper stuck in the rear of the printer if applicable.
3. Check the Printhead and Cartridges
- Open the printer’s lid to expose the printhead and ink cartridges.
- Gently move the printhead from side to side and ensure it moves freely without obstruction.
- If the printhead is stuck or unable to move smoothly, it may be causing the noise. You can try re-seating the ink cartridges by removing them and carefully reinserting them into their respective slots.
- Check the cartridge for any visible damage or ink buildup. Clean the cartridge contacts gently with a lint-free cloth if necessary.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
