Hi @jophenie,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the E0 error on the HP DeskJet Plus 4100 series usually indicates an issue with the ink cartridges or a general printer error. Since you've already replaced the cartridges with three sets of genuine HP factory cartridges, let's try a few additional troubleshooting steps to resolve this:
1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility
- Ensure the cartridges you're using are compatible with your printer model. For the HP DeskJet Plus 4100 series, the compatible cartridges are typically:
- HP 305 (Black and Tri-color) in Europe.
- HP 67 (Black and Tri-color) in the US.
- Double-check the region and model of the cartridges.
2. Inspect the Cartridge and Printer Contacts
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridges.
- Check for any plastic film, tape, or debris on the cartridge's copper contacts (where it connects to the printer).
- Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the gold/copper contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
3. Reset the Printer
- Turn the printer off and unplug it from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Reinstall the cartridges if prompted.
4. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Ensure your printer is connected to a computer or network.
- Download and install the latest firmware update from the HP Support website.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to update the firmware, as it may fix cartridge detection issues.
5. Perform a Hard Reset
- With the printer turned on, unplug the power cord from the printer and wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the wall outlet.
- Turn the printer back on and check if the error clears.
6. Check for Hardware Damage
- Inspect the cartridge area and paper path for any debris, foreign objects, or signs of internal damage.
- If there's visible damage to the cartridge compartment or printer mechanism, the printer may require service.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
