HP Pagewide Pro 477dw MFP

Hi,

 

email alerts are not working.  I tried nearly every combination for my "HP Pagewide Pro 477dw MFP". It's on the latest firmware(MAVEDWPP1N001.1743A.00), but I trying to figure out what's wrong with notification for a while now. The only feedback I get from the printer is "test has been completed successfully". I checked mail-server/destination/settings several times. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the clarification and details.

 

Few of the instructions, setups, and "how-to" documents and procedures (found in our community forum) are geared to an Enterprise environment -- it is indeed a different thing to manage your own mail servers, computers, and other devices, than it is to set up one or two printers in a home office.

 

In particular, some office / enterprise questions might be better addressed in the HPE forum where you will find members with a more similar background requirements.

I can offer a couple of "check points":

 

 Email Two-Step Verification

 

If you are using a gmail account (or other email account that provides for "two-step verification"), you likely need to have that type of security set to OFF.

 

Note that if you use two-step verification to keep your email safe, create another account just for the purpose of these email alerts - shut off two-step security on the "use just for this" account.

 

For example:

Log into your Google account > click My Account > click Sign-in and security >

Scroll down on the page, look on the right side (toward the bottom) for "2-Step Verification"

Set the setting to OFF

 

and / or

 

Embedded Web Server (EWS) for your printer > Email Alerts

 

Open your favorite browser > Enter the printer IP in the Address bar / URL

 

Settings > Email Alerts > Alert Destinations >

If there is not already a "list" defined, click the tiny "person+" icon >

Enter a name for the List > Add your email address to the list

We have our own email-servers. The printer is not allowed to communicated directly with the web or to forward mails to public mail-services.
The "Alert Destination", meaning the email-address and the mailbox, works. We are using this mailbox("Alert Destination") to receive status messages from various devices. The from address is not defined on the mail-server and we do not want to create email-addresses for every device we use.

I contacted the administrator of the mail-server and was told that the printer trys to send the test mail to the "from address", which I defined under "Email Server"(sth pagewide-status-room@host). I changed the "from address" under "Email Server" to same entry and the test-mail from the pagewide under "Email Server" came through. But on testing alerts with this setup nothing happened; I opened the paper tray, took the paper out and removed ink cartridges without triggering alerts.

 

Currently we monitor the printer via snmp polling(no trap), which seems to work. For now we will use this way to manage the printers and leave the email alerts hassle for the future.
