Hi @perkins250

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how discouraging it must feel to see printing paused even after you’ve already taken the step of reconfiguring the certificate in EWS. Thank you for the effort you’ve put in—it shows real persistence.

Let’s go through a few steps that can help clear the “encryption credentials expired” message and get printing working again on macOS Catalina:

Remove and re‑add the printer on macOS

  • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select your printer and click the minus (-) button to remove it.
  • Click the plus (+) button, choose your printer from the list, and add it again.
  • This refreshes the connection and clears any paused state.

Reset the printing system

  • In Printers & Scanners, right‑click (or Control‑click) in the printer list.
  • Choose “Reset printing system.”
  • Re‑add your printer afterward. This clears old certificates and queues.

Update printer firmware

  • On your Windows PC, open the HP App.
  • Go to your printer settings and check for firmware updates.
  • Installing the latest firmware ensures the certificate is refreshed and trusted.

Clear macOS print queue

  • Open Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click “Open Print Queue.”
  • Cancel any pending jobs.
  • Try printing again after re‑adding the printer.

Check HTTPS/SSL settings in EWS

  • Open the Embedded Web Server (EWS) in a browser.
  • Navigate to the Networking or Security tab.
  • Ensure HTTPS is enabled and the certificate is valid.
  • If you generated a new certificate, restart the printer afterward.

Use the HP App for test print

  • Open the HP App on your Mac.
  • Select your printer and try a test print.
  • This bypasses the paused queue and confirms if the connection is stable.

These steps should help clear the paused state and restore printing.
