Hi

I completed the installation for my HP-printer.

But for any reason it won't print on photopaper.

Although i ask the printer to print the picture on photopaper in the phototray, the printer uses A4 paper from the main tray

Who can help me?

Frank

Yes, we can try setting up the printer from scratch. In order to do that we have to reset the printer to factory settings, uninstall the existing printer software, reset the mac printing system and then re-add the printer.

I've send you a private message with instructions on how to factory reset the printer.

Please check your Private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile

Next, to your profile Name, you should see a little blue envelope, please click on it or simply click on this link.

Thank you for being a part of HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Reloading then photo paper and adjusting the print settings may resolve the issue, let's try these steps:

1.) Remove any plain paper from the main paper tray.

2.) Load the short edge of the photo paper into the tray. The Glossy or print side facing down.

Loading photo paper into a front load input tray

3.) Adjust the paper width guides so they rest against the edges of the paper.

4.) Open the photo, click File, and then click Print. For the Photos app, select a layout, and then click Print. The print settings window opens.

5.) If you do not see the following options in the window, click Show Details.

Example of print settings with Show Details selected

6.) Select your printer from the Printer menu.

7.) Some printers offer predefined Presets for photo printing. From the Presets menu, select an option that applies to your print job or paper type.

8.) Select the Orientation of the photo (portrait for vertical or landscape for horizontal).

9.) From the Paper Size menu, select the paper you are printing on. If necessary, click the arrow at the top or bottom of the pop-up menu to display more sizes.

Some paper sizes have multiple options. Make sure to select the correct borderless paper size, such as 4x6 in/10x15 cm Borderless, if you want to print a borderless photo.

10.) Click the print settings menu at the center of the window.

Print settings pop-up menu open with Layout selected

11.) Select Paper Type & Quality from the print settings menu.

12.) Select the Paper Type and Quality for the print job. Specify Photo Tray from the Source menu.

Example of the Paper Type/Quality menu

13.) Click Print.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi Senan

I am very gratefull for your fast reaction.

Unfortunately my printer won't accept this job, because it indicates that i have to load plain paper in the main tray.

When I load this plain paper in the main tray, the printer prints the photo on the plain paper of the main tray.

So i had the idea, the printer doesn't notice that i inserted photopaper.

Although, when I get in the printer's settings, it indicates both trays are filled with paper and photopaper like it should.

Is there something I am missing.

Anything to do with the fact that I have a Mac?

Greetings

Frank

I don't believe its because you have a Mac PC. It could be the paper sensor or the paper feed rollers that's causing the issue, let's try power resetting the printer and cleaning the paper feed rollers:

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Clean the paper feed rollers, refer to step 3 below "Printer does not pick up paper from the input tray or photo tray" from this document.

5) Plug the power cord back into the printer

6) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

7) Try to print.

Hi Senan6808

Thanks again for taking time to this issue.

I have taken the steps you offered in your second reply (removing ink-tanks, cleaning paper feed rollers, ...) but unfortunately I get the same result.

So I did another experiment.

I tried to print a photo from my iphone.

My hp-printer printed it's first photo. Hooray! So the printer is working.

Must be a software or driver problem I guess.

Perhaps it's necessary to delete all the hp-apps and programs from my mac and get the printer to factory settings.

Do you have another suggestion?

Thanks again.

You are welcome 🙂 Great job isolating that it's a driver issue. Since it's a driver issue, we can try removing and re-adding the printer driver:

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

Example of the Printers & Scanners window

2.) Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer

3.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name

4.) Confirm AirPrint or Secure AirPrint displays in the Use or Print Using menu, and then click Add.

Select AirPrint from the Use menu

5.) Try to print.

Keep me posted!

Hi

I have just taken the steps you gave me.

But there are no changes in the result.

When I order to print a photo from the photopaper tray, it still takes plain paper.

Try to restart from scratch and use factory settings?

Resetting the mac printing system and re-adding the printer would be a good idea before a factory reset. Here is how to do it:

1.) Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.

2.) Click Printers & Scanners, Print & Scan, or Print & Fax.

3.) Right-click (or Control + click) anywhere inside the Printers window, and then click Reset printing system.

4.) Click Reset or OK.

5.) Click the Add button, click the name of your printer.

6.) Click the Use or Print Using box, and then select AirPrint. Click Add to add the printer to the list.

Sorry, didn't work.

I have another print on plain paper.

That's unfortunate. Could you try adjusting the paper settings using the printer control panel display, you may use the steps available here to adjust the paper settings.

Keep me posted!
