Having had this error appear on my printer this morning, spent *way* to long trying to find out what it even meant let alone how to fix it.
Eventually I stumbled over this thread: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/HP-Envy-4500-suddenly-came-up-with-ERROR-CODE-0x83C000...
I would say that I "simply" held down Home, the - key, Up and ok after pressing the power button with my pinky while the lid was open. Not something that's easy to get your fingers to do. Got it working and instantly replaced the black ink cartridge which was a bit low. Hopefully that's the last of this error, but considering that I had to keep turning the wifi off and then back on in order to be able to print anything, I'm thinking that I'm going to have to splurge a bit and buy myself a new printer. One thing my experience with HP printers has taught me; Doesn't matter how nice the printer is when it's working, if you're spending more time fixing it than using it, get something else. Next Printer I buy sure as **** won't be HP.

As I mentioned in the opening post, I *seem* to have bypassed the issue by doing as I said I did. The problem is a case of catch 22. The error code shows as you're booting up the printer but only seems to show when the ink cartridge is running low. Replacing the ink cartridge seems to get rid of the issue, BUT to do so you need to get the printer to finish booting up, which the error message prevents you from doing. Pressing what I did let it boot. Thus I could change the ink cartridge.

After fixing the issue, it reappeared at random intervals (measured in days).
Eventually the printer just refused point blank to even turn on. It just sat there with a black screen, or occasionally a stalled loading screen.
It's done a fairly epic amount of printing since purchase and tbh, for a printer at this cost level didn't do too horrendously. Just happened to be an utter PITA to keep it running. Might look at getting the thing serviced, see if that'll breathe new life into the machine, but not expecting that to happen. Probably get used for parts in one project or another.
Anyone else experiencing the issue I did might want to get it serviced asap unless they have the money to buy a new machine.
Thank you to the various peeps who have helped me on these boards and hope you have less need to visit here in the future...
So long and thanks for all the fishy tech help. 😜
