HP Officejet Pro 9135e started making a grinding sound and sounds and looks like its coming from under the glass when the mechanism tries to move under the glass.  It will not print, scan or copy and will not connect to the network or anything.  Purchased in April but have only been using about 1 month

Hi @Lisa8990

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That F0.01.01.04 error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e, combined with the grinding noise under the glass, means the scanner assembly is jammed or malfunctioning.

It’s not a software or network problem — it’s a mechanical failure in the scanner carriage or drive belt.

Here’s what’s going on and what you can do:

What’s Happening

The noise you hear is the scanner lamp carriage trying to move but being obstructed or slipping on its belt.

Common causes:

Shipping lock or tape not fully removed

Dirt, debris, or a stuck piece of paper in the scanner track

Misaligned scanner belt or pulley

Motor or gear failure (rare, but possible on new units)

The printer refuses to do anything because the scanner is required for all print/copy operations — even plain printing.

Immediate Steps to Try

Power Reset

Turn the printer off and unplug it from power.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug it back in and power it on — listen for whether the grinding starts immediately.

If the error persists right away, it’s mechanical.

Check for Obstructions

Lift the scanner lid.

Gently move the scanner carriage (the light bar) a few cm left or right — if it’s stuck, don’t force it.

Look for:

Bits of paper

Tape/packaging foam

Loose cables rubbing against the glass underside

Clean the scanner glass and the white underside strip (dirty strips can also confuse the sensor).

Try a Hard Reset

Disconnect the power cord and network cable.

Hold the power button for 15 seconds to discharge static.

Reconnect power only, turn it on, and see if the error clears.

If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it may be necessary to contact HP Phone Support for further assistance or potential repair. Since your printer is relatively new, it should still be under warranty.
