hp printer office jet pro-8620
The printer worked fine until the cyan ink cartridge needed to be replaced. after i installed a new hp print cartridge i received an error: there is a problem with the printer or ink system. turn printer off then on. if the problem persist contact hp.
I have followed all the trouble shooting and the error is still there. I purchased another new cartridge just in case the first one was defected but no change. I have updated the drivers but still no change. has anyone had the problem before and if so what did you do to correct it

@EK64, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
We understand you're experiencing the error message:
"There is a problem with the printer or ink system. Turn printer off then on."
on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 after replacing the cyan ink cartridge. We appreciate the steps you've already taken, including replacing the cartridge and updating the drivers.
Let's try the following steps to resolve the issue:
Power Reset
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
- Turn the printer back on.
Check the Ink Cartridges
- Ensure all cartridges are genuine HP cartridges.
- Remove the cyan cartridge and inspect it for any protective tape or packaging that may not have been removed.
- Reinsert the cartridge firmly into its slot.
Clean the Cartridge and Printhead Contacts
- Power off the printer and open the cartridge access door.
- Remove all cartridges.
- Using a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water, gently clean the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and the corresponding contacts inside the printer.
- Allow the contacts to dry completely before reinserting the cartridges.
Update Firmware
- Visit HP Software and Driver Downloads and ensure your printer firmware is up to date.
Printhead Reset
- Remove all cartridges.
- Unplug the printer while it is still on.
- Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and power it on.
- Reinsert the cartridges one by one.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
