@Rebecca196, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Smart Tank 5100 Series: Fixing the E2 Error When Printing on A4 Paper!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
If you are encountering frequent E2 errors when printing on A4 paper with your HP Smart Tank 5105 printer, here is a step-by-step guide to help you resolve the issue.
Update the Printer Firmware (Recommended)
Updating the printer firmware can resolve many issues, and it’s a good first step. Follow these instructions to update the firmware from the Embedded Web Server (EWS):
Using the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
Open the EWS:
- HP Smart app: Open the HP Smart app, select your printer name or image, click the Printer Settings tile, and then click Advanced Settings.
- Printer IP address: Print an Information page by pressing the Information button on the printer control panel. Find the printer IP address on the printout, type it into a web browser address bar, and press Enter.
Login or Certificate Window:
- If a website security certificate displays, click Continue.
- If a login window opens, type admin as the username and enter the PIN located inside the front door of the printer, or the set password.
Navigate to Firmware Updates:
- From the EWS home page, click the Tools tab.
- Click Printer Updates and then Firmware Updates.
- Click Check Now. Any available updates will download and install automatically.
Note: Do not turn off the printer during a firmware update, as this could permanently damage the printer.
Alternately, Download Firmware from the HP Website
For Windows or macOS, follow these instructions:
- Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads:
- Visit HP Software and Driver Downloads, enter your printer model, and select Firmware from the list of drivers.
- Click Download next to the update and follow the instructions.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
