HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw
Microsoft Windows 11

My mfp m175nw printer is completely stuck and I need to perform a factory reset. Even the Cancel plus Right Arrow key after reboot does not work. I  tried to update the firmware and now I'm stuck on " Firmware corrupt ready 2 download".  I see other posts where HP employess provided instructions through private messages, please help me out.

Hi @Ro175,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

We understand that your HP LaserJet Pro 100 color MFP M175nw printer is stuck with a “Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download” message, and you're looking to perform a factory reset or hard reset to recover functionality.

Below are the reset procedures available for this model.

Factory Reset via Control Panel (When Accessible)

This option only works if the printer menu is responsive and accessible.

  1. On the printer control panel, press the Setup button.
  2. Use the arrow buttons to scroll to Service, then press OK.
  3. Scroll to Restore Defaults, and press OK.
  4. The printer will automatically restart with factory default settings.

⚠️ This reset will not clear page counts or tray size settings, but it may reset the language and connectivity.

Hard Reset (Manual Cold Reset / NVRAM Reset)

If the printer is unresponsive or stuck in firmware mode, try this hardware-level reset:

Note: This reset will clear NVRAM and can help resolve some boot-level issues, though it may not recover from a corrupted firmware update.

Steps:

  1. Turn off the printer using the power button.
  2. Press and hold the Cancel (X) and Right Arrow (→) buttons simultaneously.
  3. While holding the buttons, turn the printer back on.
  4. Continue holding both buttons until you see the “Permanent Storage Init” or reset message on the display.
  5. Release the buttons. The printer should reset and restart.

🛠 If the printer still shows “Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download,” it means a recovery firmware installation is required. Factory or hard resets won’t resolve a corrupted firmware state.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Ro175, I see you were interacting with @VikramTheGreat however, he's away for now and I'd love to help you out!

Thanks for getting back to us—and I’m really sorry to hear the issue is still persisting.

Since your MFP M175nw is stuck on the "Firmware Corrupt Ready 2 Download" message and the reset methods aren’t working, the printer is unfortunately in a recovery mode that only a firmware reinstallation can fix. At this stage, resets (including NVRAM or cold reset) won't help.

Here’s what you can try next:

💡 Recovery Firmware Reinstallation

You’ll need to:

Download the recovery firmware for the M175nw from the HP Support site.

Connect the printer to your PC via USB cable.

Run the firmware utility. It should detect the printer in “boot mode” and allow you to reinstall the firmware.

⚠️ Make sure no other print jobs or drivers are interfering in the background.

If the recovery tool doesn’t recognize the printer or the update fails again, it may require service through an HP Authorized Service Center.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
