I have an HP D1460 printer which printed several pages today but now has a flashing power light. Ink cartridges appear OK.

I found advice on the HP site but haven't succeeded in getting the printer to work. I removed & re-installed the print cartridges

Hi @GrimGraeme1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A flashing power light on your HP D1460 printer typically indicates a problem that needs attention. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Check for Paper Jams: Sometimes a paper jam can trigger the flashing power light. Open the printer cover and check for any paper stuck inside. If you find any, carefully remove it.

Check for Ink Cartridge Issues: Since you mentioned that the ink cartridges appear okay, make sure they are correctly installed. Open the printer cover and remove the ink cartridges. Then, reseat them firmly and ensure they are properly snapped into place.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for a minute or two.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Inspect for Obstructions: Examine the printer for any obstructions that might be preventing it from functioning properly. Look inside for foreign objects or debris that could be causing issues.

Test with a Different Outlet: Sometimes electrical issues can cause problems with the printer. Try plugging the printer into a different electrical outlet to rule out this possibility.

Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers: If you're using this printer with a computer, ensure you have the latest printer drivers installed. You can download them from the HP website.

Check for Error Messages: If the flashing light is accompanied by an error message on your computer screen, take note of it. This can provide valuable information about the issue.

Perform a Self-Test: Some HP printers have a self-test or diagnostic mode. You can usually initiate this by holding down a combination of buttons on the printer's control panel. Refer to your printer's user manual or the HP website for instructions on how to perform a self-test.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks Alden4. I took my faulty HP D1460 laptop to the guy at Capital cartridges in Edinburgh - he has fixed it in the past. Despite his efforts he was unsuccessful, and has agreed to recycle the printer. I'm able now to do all my printing/scanning/copying tasks with my HP 1500 machine, now connected to either of my ThinkPads. Regards/thanks, Graeme
