printer won't print 5x7 photos. 4x 6 works. same HP advanced photo paper. it appears that the printer begins printing before the paper reaches the printheads. so ink gets all over the rollers and only the last inch or so of the photo is on the paper. HP assist says al the software and drivers are up to date for the printer.

@rich200, Welcome to HP Support Community!

The media weight supported by the printer is 60 to 105 g/m² (plain); 220 to 280 g/m² (photo); 75 to 90 g/m² (envelope); 163 to 200 g/m² (card). Does the 5x7 paper meet the specifications?

Also, try loading one paper at a time and see if that helps.

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Keep me posted for further assistance.

both the 5x7 and 4x6 paper is HP advance photo 250g/m. the 4x6 works ok and the 5x7 doesn't. I was doing 1 sheet at a time. also tried both trays. it starts printing before the paper reaches the print heads. when I couldn't print the 5x7 HP advanced I had some matte finish heavy photo paper 8 1/2 x 11 and tried it. worked fine (jet print photo graphic image paper). also firmware is up to date per HP assist.

Thanks for replying!

The only option left is to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Hope this helps!
