Hi @Tgrubbs,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The flashing lights and "E" on the display of your HP DeskJet 4152e indicate an issue with the printer, most likely related to the new black ink cartridge. Here's how to troubleshoot the problem.

Check the Ink Cartridge:

  • Remove the Black Ink Cartridge:
    • Open the printer's ink cartridge access door.
    • Wait until the carriage stops moving.
    • Remove the black ink cartridge and inspect it.
  • Check for any Protective Tape:
    • Ensure that you've removed all protective tape from the ink cartridge's copper-colored contacts. Be careful not to touch these contacts as this can cause issues.
  • Reinsert the Cartridge:
    • Reinsert the cartridge into its slot, ensuring it clicks into place.

Check the Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Make sure you are using the correct ink cartridge for the HP DeskJet 4152e (typically HP 67 or HP 67XL for black ink).
  • If the cartridge is compatible but still not working, try using a different black ink cartridge if possible.

Reset the Printer:

  • Power Off and On:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
    • Wait for about a minute.
    • Plug the printer back in and power it on.
  • Check for Any Changes:
    • Observe if the error persists after restarting.

Check the Paper and Jam Issue:

  • Sometimes an "E" error on the display can also indicate a paper jam or an issue with the paper tray.
  • Remove any paper from the input tray, check for jams, and then reload the paper.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • If the problem persists, ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. You can check for updates using the HP Smart app or by visiting the HP support website.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
