Hi @Bleeder,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "E5" error on an HP printer typically indicates a problem with the printhead or ink cartridge. This can be related to issues like a misaligned printhead, cartridge problems, or printhead obstruction. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and resolve the E5 error:
1. Turn Off and Restart the Printer:
- Power Off: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait: Wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.
- Power On: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Check if the error is resolved.
2. Check and Reinstall Ink Cartridges:
- Open Cartridge Access Door: Open the printer’s cartridge access door.
- Remove Cartridges: Carefully remove the ink cartridges from their slots.
- Inspect Cartridges: Check for any protective tape that may still be on the cartridges or any visible damage.
- Reinstall Cartridges: Reinsert the cartridges, ensuring they click into place securely.
- Close the Door: Close the cartridge access door and check if the error persists.
3. Clean the Printhead:
- Access the Printhead: With the cartridges removed, access the printhead (the component where the cartridges are installed).
- Clean the Printhead: Use a soft, lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water or isopropyl alcohol to gently clean the printhead area.
- Reinstall Cartridges: Once cleaned, reinstall the cartridges and close the access door.
4. Check for Obstructions:
- Inspect the Area: Check for any paper jams, obstructions, or foreign objects in the cartridge area.
- Remove Obstructions: If you find anything blocking the printhead movement, carefully remove it.
5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Update Drivers: Go to the HP website and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install any available updates.
- Reinstall Drivers: If updating doesn’t help, uninstall the existing drivers and reinstall them.
6. Perform a Printer Reset:
- Factory Reset: If the error persists, you may need to perform a factory reset:
- Go to "Setup" on the printer’s control panel.
- Select "Printer Maintenance" or "Tools".
- Choose "Restore Defaults" or a similar option to reset the printer.
7. Check for Firmware Updates:
- Update Firmware: Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Check the HP website or use the HP Smart app to see if there are any firmware updates available.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
