@texascitylady21, Welcome to HP Support Community!
If you are using a refilled ink cartridge, the printer should not throw any error messages. But if it does, you can try the following steps:
Reset the printer
Resetting the printer can sometimes resolve an ink cartridge error.
-
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait at least 15 seconds.

Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
-
Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
-
Turn the printer on.
If the issue persists, continue troubleshooting steps from this document.
