I am having an issue with blank pages. I have a new Mac, running el Capitan 10.11.5.  I installed a driver from here: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?locale=en_US

The yellow ink cartridge light was blinking. I removed black cartridge and then it turned off to see if I could print with just the tricolor cartridge.

That seemed to fix the problem. The cartridge light turned off but printed pages came out blank. I did the self-test and I got a cleanly printed report that also included an error code: 905D0303.

Another thing: when I select the print command, I do NOT get the HP printer properties dialog box with the paper/quality, finishing, color etc tabs. Instead, it looks like more of a generic Apple print box? See here:

Would this suggest that the driver I downloaded (see beginning of message) needs to be updated? The 5150 should work with el Capitan, right?

Thank you!

The link you shared was helpful. Before, I had tried to remove and then add my printer to try and "refresh" things, but it wasn't working. However, the instructions you shared mentioned that if the printer was listed as "generic" it could lead to problems.

So I deleted and tried adding again. This time, I noticed that there was a "Use" drop-down menu that just had "Generic PCL Printer" as a default choice. I went into that Use menu and chose "Select Software." After that, I hunted through the list and looked for the closest thing to my printer. There wasn't a deskjet 5100, so I chose the 5500.

Once I did that, then things printed for me.
