my printer will not print it says its in a error state

Thanks for reaching out. If your HP DeskJet Plus 4140 All-in-One Printer shows an "error state" in Windows 11, here are the most effective steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Physical Connections

  • Make sure the printer is powered on.
  • If using USB, unplug and replug into a different USB port.
  • If wireless, make sure the Wi-Fi light is solid, not blinking.


2. Restart Devices

  • Power off the printer and PC.
  • Unplug the printer from power for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Restart the computer and try printing again.


3. Set Printer as Default

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Printers & Scanners
  • Click your printer > click Set as default


4. Clear Print Queue

  • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers
  • Right-click your printer > See what’s printing
  • Cancel any stuck jobs


5. Run the HP Smart App

This tool automatically detects and fixes common problems like:

  • Connection issues
  • Driver errors
  • Print spooler problems


6. Reinstall Printer Driver

  1. Go to Settings > Printers & Scanners
  2. Remove your HP printer
  3. Restart the PC
