Hi @peterboehm

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I can imagine how frustrating it is when your trusted printer suddenly won’t connect after upgrading your Mac.

When encountering a "secure connection failed" error while connecting your HP Envy 114 printer to your new iMac running macOS 12.0 Monterey, you can troubleshoot and resolve the issue by following these steps:

Check the Printer Connectivity:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Verify that the printer and the iMac are on the same network.

Update Printer Firmware and Drivers:

  • Make sure your HP Envy 114 printer has the latest firmware installed. You can check for firmware updates on the HP support site.
  • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page to download and install the latest printer drivers compatible with macOS 12.0. Install these drivers on your iMac.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your iMac and the printer to reset network settings.

Verify Network Settings:

  • Check your Wi-Fi settings and ensure that the network is stable and functioning correctly.
  • Ensure that the printer's IP address is correctly assigned, and there are no IP conflicts within your network.

Disable and Re-enable Wireless Communication:

  • On the printer, navigate to the wireless settings and temporarily disable the wireless communication. Wait for a few seconds and then re-enable it.

Reset the Printer to Network Defaults:

  • On your printer control panel, go to Setup > Tools > Restore Network Defaults. This will reset the network settings on the printer. Reconnect the printer to the Wi-Fi network afterward.

Add Printer to macOS Using System Preferences:

  • On your iMac, open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the + button and select your HP Envy 114 printer from the list. Follow the prompts to add the printer.

Ensure Proper Security Protocols:

  • Make sure your Wi-Fi network uses a compatible security protocol (WPA or WPA2).
  • If needed, adjust the security settings of your Wi-Fi network or consult your network administrator for assistance.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, you may consider resetting the printing system on your iMac:

  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list and select Reset printing system.
  • Re-add your HP Envy 114 printer as you did before.
