HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

It is a problem that has already been tested and verified in several forums and apparently they no longer want to support said model. I have tried a thousand solutions and it does not work in Windows 11, the same one in Windows 10 is perfect with the same computer booted from two different hard drives

Hi @srfred,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've encountered a compatibility issue with the HP ENVY 4500 e-All-in-One Printer on Windows 11, which works perfectly on Windows 10. This isn't uncommon for older printers, especially when official support and driver updates are phased out.

Here are a few suggestions to try and resolve the issue:

Use Windows 10 Drivers in Compatibility Mode

  • Download the latest available Windows 10 driver for your printer from the HP Support website.
  • Install in Compatibility Mode:
    1. Right-click the installer file.
    2. Select Properties > Compatibility tab.
    3. Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 10.
    4. Run the installer and complete the installation.

Try the Universal Print Driver

HP provides a Universal Print Driver (UPD) that works across many devices:

  • Download the HP Universal Print Driver for Windows from the HP UPD page.
  • Install it and select your printer model during setup.

Use Generic Printer Drivers

Windows 11 includes generic drivers that may work:

  • Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select Add Printer, and when your printer appears, choose The printer that I want isn’t listed.
  • Opt for Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname and select a generic driver during installation.

Adjust Print Settings

Partial printing can sometimes be resolved by tweaking settings:

  • Open the Printer Preferences in Devices and Printers.
  • Set the Print Quality to "Normal" or "Draft."
  • Disable advanced features like "Borderless Printing" or "Two-sided Printing."

Update or Roll Back Windows Updates

A recent Windows update might be the cause:

  • Check if there’s an update that fixes the issue.
  • Alternatively, roll back to a prior stable Windows 11 version:
    • Open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Update History > Uninstall Updates.

Consider a Virtual Machine

If nothing works, you can use a Virtual Machine (VM) running Windows 10 to operate your printer:

  • Use software like VirtualBox or VMware Player to create a Windows 10 VM on your Windows 11 system.

If you've tried these options and nothing works, the most reliable solution may be to use Windows 10 for printing purposes or consider upgrading to a newer printer that has confirmed support for Windows 11.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
