Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Really need help. My Printer just wont print anything thicker than normal paper. Although it used to. It just wont do photo paper or anything now. I can do paper fine and perfect. But I put the paper through and it gets stuck on the compartment door. No matter how many times I clear the jam. It keeps getting caught on the white wheels. Ive followed the jamming instructions. Every one of em. But same issue. Card, photo. Anything thicker than normal paper will jam as it gets caught. And idk why. Yes I've cleaned the rollers and etc. But it just keeps getting stuck on that other bit.

Hi @Simon830

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

That sounds incredibly frustrating! If your HP Envy 4520 is consistently jamming when printing thicker paper, here are a few things to check:

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Check Paper Type Settings—Ensure your printer is set to the correct paper type (photo paper, cardstock, etc.) in the print settings before printing.

  2. Use the Rear Paper Feed (If Available)—Some printers have a rear feed slot designed for thicker paper. If your printer has one, try using it instead.

  3. Adjust Paper Guides—Make sure the paper guides in the tray are snug but not too tight. If they’re too tight, they can cause jams.

  4. Clean the Rollers Again—Even though you’ve already cleaned them, try using a lint-free cloth with a small amount of distilled water or rubbing alcohol to remove any hidden debris.

  5. Check for Firmware Updates—HP occasionally releases firmware updates that improve paper handling. You can check for updates on HP’s support page here.

  6. Try a different paper brand—some brands of thicker paper may have coatings or textures that make them harder for the rollers to grip.

  7. Reset the Printer—Turn off the printer, unplug it for a few minutes, then restart it.
This can sometimes resolve persistent jamming issues.
