HP ENVY Photo 7858 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

when my printer starts up, it shows the hp symbol, status bar and 7 dots on the panel.  the status bar works its way across the screen and the first dot lights up but the printer freezes.  i can't turn it off unless i disconnect the power cord.  my computer will not recognize it to try to troubleshoot.

Hi @mswoods13,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy Photo printer is freezing during startup and getting stuck with the progress bar and first dot lit up, it indicates a problem with the printer's initialization process. Here’s a structured approach to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

**1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer. If it doesn’t respond, unplug the power cord.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the power outlet.:
  • Leave the printer unplugged for at least 60 seconds to ensure a complete reset.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and the power outlet.
  • Turn the printer on and observe if it starts up properly.

**2. Check for Obstructions and Paper Jams

  • Open all accessible compartments, including the paper tray and the cartridge access door.
  • Check for any paper jams, foreign objects, or debris that could be causing the issue.
  • If there’s any paper in the tray or inside the printer, remove it.
  • Ensure all compartments and doors are securely closed before restarting the printer.

**3. Check for Firmware and Software Issues

  • If possible, visit the HP Support website and search for firmware updates for your printer model. If the printer can be recognized later, updating the firmware may resolve initialization issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
