HP Officejet 4622 e-All-in-One Printer

I have a HP Officejet 4622. I just put new ink cartridges in it about 30 minutes ago. Printer shows ink low and will only print in black. Even running test print pages, none of the colors show up. I don't mind that it only prints in black but at the same time I just spent $90 on ink that I can't return and it doesn't print. What can I do to get the colors to work? Printer is not set to print black only.

Hi @Sandym79,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet 4622 printer is showing low ink and not printing in color even after installing new ink cartridges, there could be a few potential reasons for this issue. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to try and resolve the problem.

  • Confirm Ink Cartridge Installation: Double-check to ensure that the new ink cartridges are correctly installed in their respective slots. Make sure they are securely seated in the printer.
  • Remove Plastic Tape and Vent Covers: Often, new ink cartridges come with protective plastic tape or vent covers that need to be removed before installation. Ensure that you have removed any protective covering that might be blocking the ink from flowing.
  • Check Ink Levels: Verify the ink levels through the printer software or control panel. Sometimes, the printer might show low ink initially due to the manufacturing process, but the actual levels might be higher. If the ink levels are indeed low, there might be an issue with the cartridges or the printer's ability to read the ink levels.
  • Run Print Head Cleaning: The print head might be clogged or blocked, preventing the color ink from flowing correctly. You can usually find an option to clean the print heads through the printer's software or control panel. Run the print head cleaning process and see if it improves the color printing quality.
  • Check Ink Cartridge Expiration: Ensure that the ink cartridges you installed are not expired. Expired cartridges might not work correctly.
  • Update Printer Firmware/Drivers: Check the manufacturer's website for any firmware or driver updates for your printer model. Sometimes, updating the printer's software can resolve compatibility issues and improve performance.
  • Perform a Printer Reset: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in. Power on the printer and check if the issue persists.
  • Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges: Using genuine HP ink cartridges is essential for optimal performance and print quality. Non-HP cartridges or refilled cartridges might not work as expected and could cause printing problems.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
