If you're encountering an error with your HP MFP 140we that says "problem has occurred and you will be unable to print," here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

 

Step 1: Restart Your Printer and Devices

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Turn off your computer or device connected to the printer.
  3. Wait for about a minute.
  4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  5. Restart your computer or device.

Step 2: Check for Error Messages

  1. Look at the printer's display for any specific error codes or messages.
  2. Refer to the printer's manual or the HP support website to understand what the error code means and follow the recommended steps to resolve it.

Step 3: Update Printer Firmware and Drivers

  1. Visit the HP Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
  2. Enter your printer model (HP MFP 140we) and download the latest firmware and drivers.
  3. Install the updates following the on-screen instructions. Click here

Step 4: Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix the printing issues.

Step 5: Check Printer Connectivity

  1. Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
  2. If using Wi-Fi, check that the printer is connected to the correct network.
  3. If using USB, make sure the cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer.

Please find the next steps below.

 

Step 6: Clear Print Queue

  1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
  2. Select your HP MFP 140we printer and click Open queue.
  3. Cancel all pending print jobs.

Step 7: Reset Printing System (for macOS users)

  1. Open System Preferences and select Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the printer list and select Reset printing system.
  3. Re-add the printer.

Step 8: Check for Paper Jams and Cartridge Issues

  1. Open the printer and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
  2. Ensure the ink or toner cartridges are correctly installed and have sufficient ink or toner.

Step 9: Factory Reset the Printer

  1. Locate the reset button or method in the printer's manual.
  2. Perform a factory reset to return the printer to its default settings.
