The normal printing process seems to work just fine, only when printing #10 envelopes do I experience the problem with crooked printing no manner which way the envelope is inserted according to the setup (Microsoft Word).

To date the following steps have been taken:

1.  The firmware version is up-to-date: CLP1CN1322CR

2.  All the rollers are clean and operating freely, no paper jams/particles anywhere-front or rear.

3.  The envelope appears to come out straight (looking directly in the front as it drops onto the paper tray.

4.  Different types of #10 envelopes were tried.

The crooked printing pattern is not consistant, some times it angles down differently and sometimes the placement of the return address and the addressee are different.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PROBLEM SOLVED

The bottom line is:  READ THE MANUAL

I'd been under the assumption (wrongly) that OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus would print envelopes the same as my previous HP OfficeJet Pro L7680.  That model allowed me to print envelopes by putting the envelopes on top of the paper I already had in the tray, putting the envelopes on the far right side face down.  This had always worked before with no problems and the envelopes printed correctly, even though you could have used the tray and adjusted the sides to accept the correct envelope size (I never tried that).

On the 8600 model you MUST remove any paper in the tray and  load the envelopes in the center, adjusting the sides to the envelope size.  ALSO, you must insert the envelope(s) face down with the tip of the flap pointing towards the right, just as the graphics on the bottom of the tray show.

IF YOU USE MS WORD TO PRINT ENVELOPES AND LABELS IT MAY BE CONFUSING AS IT SHOWS 6 FEED METHODS AVAILABLE, IF YOU CHOOSE THE ONE (FOURTH FROM THE RIGHT) IT SHOWS THE ENVELOPE BEING IN THE MIDDLE AND THE TIP OF THE FLAP FACING RIGHT, THIS WILL CAUSE THE PRINTING TO BE UPSIDE DOWN ON THE ENVELOPE.

This is what you should read first in the User Guide (manual) for printing envelopes for the 8600 printer:

Print on Envelopes (pg. 39 for Windows)

Load Media (pg. 24)

Load envelopes (pg. 25)

My frustrations have ended-cockpit error.

Hi pikespeakbob,

I see by your post that when you print envelopes, it prints crooked.

I will be happy to help you.

Make sure you are removing all the paper in the paper tray and just putting in the envelopes when printing to them.

Here is a document for loading the envelopes. Loading Paper, Envelopes, and Specialty Paper.

Run a alignment on the printer to see if this helps. An 'Alignment Unsuccessful' Error Message Displays on the All-in-One. Disregard the title. Go to Solution three: Make sure that the paper type is appropriate and then try the alignment process again.

Check the printer preferences.

Go to start, devices and printers, right click the printer and left click printer preferences, select the Paper/Quality tab. Under Paper Size select the #10 envelope.

Under media leave on plain paper.

Try printing again.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.
Have a nice day!

Hi Gemini02,

I've tried all the methods you suggested, but none seems to have worked.  My printhead alignment was perfect, my print to #10 envelope was correct but the envelopes still come out crooked.  I tried inserting the envelopes on top of plain white paper (well below the solid red indent) as well as putting the envelope by itself in the tray, even changing the printer feed tray options from Tray 1 to auto select, etc.,  all print crooked.  If I print the envelope info using plain white paper (no envelope), it prints in the proper area as if an envelope was used.

Could this be a software problem?  I'm using the HP Officejet Pro Full Feature Software and driver file: 0J8600_1315.exe

My previous HP Officejet Pro L7680 did not have this problem, all the envelopes printed straight and clear.

Hi pikespeakbob,

Thanks for providing that information.

You do have a point, that it could be software related.

Just for testing purposes, we can try and print a envelope through WordPad and Notepad.

Go to start, all programs, accessories, WordPad and Notepad is listed there.

Type some text on the page.

Then go to file, page setup, beside size, select Envelope #10 which should show you the preview.

Then go to file, printer, preferences,  select the Paper/Quality tab. Under Paper Size select the #10 envelope.

Let me know if that prints skewed.

Thank You.

I tried WordPad and the results are the same-still crooked/skewed.  On a regular letter size sheet of paper the text comes through straight and in about the right place as a #10 envelope.

Hi pikespeakbob,

What kind of envelopes are you using?

(some kinds are more slippery then others)

Plain copy paper envelopes are the best texture to use.

Make sure the paper guards are right against the envelopes and there isn't a gap.

I have provided a document to clean the pick roller and duplexer wheels. When printing a envelope it only pulls it through by the one roller.

An 'Out of Paper' or 'Pick Motor Stalled' Message Displays, and the Printer Does Not Pick Up or Feed... Go to Solution four: Clean the paper rollers. Step one and two.

If you are still having issues, I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to
see what other options are available for you. Contact HP Worldwide.

Thank You.

Hi Gemini02,

I've tried two different types of #10 envelopes, both print crooked and they printed correctly on my old OfficeJet Pro L7680.  I cleaned the rollers but it didn't make any difference and they appeared clean before I did the application.  I'm leaning to believe it really might be a mechanical issue but I can't see any obvious part malfunction when I look in the back and underneath the printer when it prints, notlhing seems to be "binding".  I did however, remove the duplexer and tried to print an envelope and it did look like it might have printed crooked, hard to really tell since the duplexer seems to be needed to successfully print any page or envelope.

I thought I could identify and fix the problem myself (with help), but it looks like I might have to take it in for repair.  I did purchace a 1-year warranty (it probably covers everything except printing envelopes) so I'll see if I can use it.  Really hate to take it in as the only problem seems to be printing envelopes.

I'll leave this problem open for awhile until I take it in for repair and then report back on this link with the solution.

Thanks again for all your help and I'll give a thumbs-up for all the help but won't post it here as I'm afraid that It will close the case before I can report back.

I have tried all of the above.
Still crooked printing just on envelopes.

I have tried 3 different software programs still crooked printing.

I believe it is a printer problem. I have printed these before, last year with this printer with this software.

This time I can't figuare out how to get it to print straight. Envelope is feeding correctly. On regular paper it is printed correctly. When just envelope with the sides moved in it wants to print crooked.  Please help!!!!

Welcome to the HP Forums Malulost,

I see by your post that when printing envelopes they are crooked. You have already followed the previous steps and documents and the issue isn't resolved yet. I can help you with this.

Make sure you are removing all the paper in the paper tray and just putting in the envelopes when printing to them.

Try another type of envelope to find out if it is the texture causing the issue.

Make sure you are selecting the envelope and plain paper in the printer preferences.

If the problem persists then I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you. Contact HP Worldwide.

Have a nice day!
Thank You.
