Currently having the same problem, has anyone found a solution?

Please refer to the "Problem Solved" response that I posted last year in this forum and was responded to by several others for help in this fix.  My problem was "cockpit error" as I had not read the portion in the manual that shows that "all" the paper in the paper tray has to be removed and the envelope to be  inserted using the adjustable sliders.  If you just leave all the paper in and put the envelope on top, you'll get the crooked printing almost every time.

That's not the problem here.

Hi @AMBoone,

I see that the envelopes are printing crooked. I would like to be able to help you out today.

Have you tried the steps in Message 2 ?

Make sure you are just loading the envelopes in the tray and removing the paper from the tray.

If you are using Word, please take a look at this document to check your settings. Print an envelope.

Did you have the same results printing from Notepad?

What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.

What application are you using?

What size envelope are you trying to print on?

Yes, I've tried the steps in message two.

I am using Microsoft Word, we don't use notepad here.  And yes, I've performed the operations on another HP printer and it worked fine.  The porblem is with the 8600.

Size 10 enevelopes.

Hi @AMBoone,

I would suggest trying to print the envelopes through Notepad, if they are still printing crooked, it may be a hardware issue with the printer.

If the issue continues, please Contact HP Support for further assistance. Fill in the model number and the form to receive a case number for quicker assistance. Thank You.

I realize this is an older thread. But, since I have this printer and am experiencing the same issue I'd chime in.

When I bought the printer I also bought a second try so that I could have envelopes loaded all the time. As a general rule, it prints OK. But, an occaisional #10 floats around a bit, creating the crooked text.

Today I loaded some 5.5" square envelopes to print. (You have to use a Deskjet 9800 driver for custom paper sizes). I experienced the same issue where it was crooked. I checked the paper tray guides to make sure they were snug. Unfortunately, it is designed sort of like a ratchet, where you have little teeth the guides move along. In my circumstance, it seems that the guide needed to rest right in between two teeth so it was either too tight or too loose. That little bit of slop made all the difference in the world.  When I put the #10 envelopes back in, I noticed that the slop was not nearly as bad. It was still there. But, not as pronounced with my square envelopes.

I was also printing with a single envelope loaded, so that might've exenuated the issue. Might be able to put some kind of a shim in the paper tray so that the guide doesn't move around nearly as much.

Good luck all!

Robert

I bought a full box of Staples #9 envelopes to feed through the printer.  They are apparently too slippery for the rollers and printed on a slant.  I had to rough them up by using an emery board on top and bottom, both sides.  Not elegant but it worked.

Quick follow up on my last post.  Click the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Icon, set preferences, paper quality, Media, P bright white paper.

Fixed Mine!!

I had the same crooked print problems on my #10 envelopes.

The video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeroMrzgDxE is slow but follow all of the cleaning they recommend and you will be back to printing #10 envelopes again.

They video suggests using Q-tips which seemed a little wimpy to me.  I used a damp clean cotton terry-cloth kitchen type towel to clean the main roller.  Be sure to clean all the rollers as depicted in the video.

Skip the software stuff, it's a waste of time.

Good Luck.
