Every time I print, it cuts off the top of what I'm printing and doesn't print true to size.  I've called in and wasted hours talking to someone about how to set default to just normal every day printing and can't get them to understand.  I just want to print contracts out on my standard 8.5x11 copy paper and move on.  Help???

Welcome to the HP Community --

A couple of places to (re)check ...

If the printer is clean and ready to print,

If the contracts are in Word format,

If the documents are formatted for Letter size paper,

If the Margins are set to Narrow (1/2 inch on every side),

If the printer EWSTray and Paper settings are set to Letter, plain paper, and the tray you are using to print the content,

Check whether Word is forcing an A4 / Letter scale setting.

 Word – Document Scale

Trouble with labels and possibly with other documents that include mixed content types:

Document Scale

There is a setting in Word that will "scale" a document for Letter / A4 paper.

If you are having alignment issues with your document (for example, labels, bottom of page chopped), UNCHECK this setting.

When printing directly from within Word

Setup:

Word > FileOptions > Advanced

In Section Print (about 2/3 of the way down)

Check or UNCHECK "Scale content for A4 or 8.5 x 11" paper sizes

Click OK to save changes

What else?

If the printer is clean and ready to print,

If the contracts are in PDF format,

If the documents are formatted for Letter size paper,

If the printer EWSTray and Paper settings are set to Letter, plain paper, and the tray you are using to print the content,

Check / Adjust the Page Size setting to "Actual" or 100%

Print PDF in Adobe Reader DC

Basic Options > Adobe Reader > Print PDF - Size or Poster

Open the PDF document in Adobe Reader DC

Click the Print icon

Open Properties

Set Shortcut to Everyday Printing (Plain paper, single sided)

Select your Paper Size

Click OK to save change(s) and Exit the Properties menu

Next,

Main print menu

Page Sizing & Handling

If printing at 100% or smaller, and the content fits on the paper, Page Sizing & Handling = Size

Then select Actual, Fit / Shrink to fit, Custom ScalePercentage (wording varies)

OR

If printing “larger than 100%”, or the content size requires it, Page Sizing & Handling = Poster

Poster Printing - Notes

  • If the page size is equal to or smaller than the paper size and you want the output larger, increase the Tile Size
  • If the file is already larger than the paper size, it will be divided into Tiled sheets needed to print the file
  • Enter an "overlap" and whether you want the "cut marks" included

When ready, click to Print

So you're saying I have to go to Adobe Reader DC to print a document?

I've had HP's for 10 years and have never had to go through many steps to just print a document.  I print Word, JPG and PDF's.

The only thing that prints correctly are excel files.

These are suggestions.

Not good ones by your reaction, but it was an honest attempt.

Smiling.

Since Excel files print as expected, it is likely the full driver software is installed and functional.

And

Furthermore, for those reading — and might like to answer — it is likely the HP driver is selected in Printer Properties > Advanced as opposed to the unwanted IPP / Microsoft driver.

You could — only if you like and have not done so — try a basic power reset on the printer.

As you might have done before -

When the printer is switched ON

Unplug the printer

Leave unplugged for 60 seconds or a bit longer

Plug the printer into a standard wall socket

If the printer does not boot / start on its own, press and release the power button

Wait a couple of minutes (or longer) for the printer to completely restart.

Try the print job again - print just one page to reduce paper and ink use.

Should I think of anything else, I will post back.
