After looking at your screenshots @dlddemon, I can see you are using the HPDD896C (HP Photosmart 6520 series) driver, this is a class driver not the HP driver.

I first suggest removing this driver and adding the printer again. In fact, I suggest using the following steps to delete the printer from device and printers, and the driver from the server properties.

1. In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder

2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.

  • Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
  • Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
  • Windows 7/8, 8.1, and 10 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.

3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window

4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’

5. Choose 'Remove driver only'

6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.

If documents are stuck in the print spooler, you may see an error, cancel any documents pending in the print queue, or try restarting the print spooler, then try to remove the driver from ‘Print server properties’ again. If it still won’t remove the package, restarting the computer and the printer should resolve this ‘in use’ error and allow the driver to be removed.

After the driver is removed, open Start > All Programs > HP folder > Printer folder > HP Setup and Software (or the printer icon).  The Setup and software screen will open and you can click on Connect a new printer.

Once you've re-added the HP Driver, try printing a label again and let me know the result. Also, you might need to change 'Borderless Printing: Print with border' to Print without border.

Let me know how it goes.

Hey, welcome to the HP Forums @dlddemon!

I understand your scaling is not at 100% and it is affecting your CD jewel box labels. What program are you using to print from, and have you tried to print from a different program to see if the issue occurs from elsewhere? I have a feeling the issue may have more to do with the program or settings than it does the printer software.

I'll watch for your reply.

Cheers!

Hi Sunshyn2005 , Thanks for your response. I am using Audio Label version 4 and have been using it for many years without any problems. I have tried to to copy and paste from audio label into MS word 2007 and tried to rresize to fit but was not completely successful. the results were closer to fitting the case but there was still some variance that could not be changed to compensate.  The cover adjustments from within Audio label have always printed out without problem but suddenly the software no longer prints out as it once did. Audio Label support suggested checking to see if scaling was at 100% and then try printing, this is why I am looking for a way of changing scaling. Can you help me with this? :indifferent:

Thanks for any guidance you can offer.

This program is unfamiliar to me, but I could try to help. Can you post a screenshot of your print dialog box? Also, do you have a Page setup option in the settings?

How to take and post a screenshot on HP Support Forum.

EUREKA!  Thanks, this worked perfectly, all is now back to normal.

Just a point of interest...I do not recall having changed my print driver preceding the period to when this problem started.

How can I avoid this from happening again?

Glad that worked!! I'm not sure why it would have changed to the class driver, nor do I know how to prevent that from happening. I have seen this happen to me but in my case it was because I wasn't able to print and I choose to add the printer again. I hadn't realized that I was adding the class driver, but again that was something I did. Since you say you didn't add this printer, I don't know how it would have got there.

In any case, keep an eye on the name of the printer when you're printing something. And, if you run into any issues in the future you can always run the HP Print and Scan Doctor too. The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning, and connectivity issues including but not limited to:

  • Connectivity:

USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.

Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.

  • Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
  • Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
  • Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
  • Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
  • Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
  • Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.
  • Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
  • Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
  • Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
  • Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
  • Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
