After easily removing a paper jam, the printer will not function. Getting the Carriage jam message. Also noted that a thin mostly clear plastic piece, approximatly the lentgh of the carriage and about 1/16 inch wide, with a knotch on each end, like it had been attached to something in the carriage area, was found laying rolled up in the carriage area, no longer attached to anything.  When you power the printer off and on, the printer cartridge carrier slides back and forth, banging loudly at each end of the carriage return. I am thinking this piece of plastice must control the movement of the cartridge piece as it moves along the rail.  I could try to reattach it, if I knew where to place it?

This is the printer of a 94 year old gentleman, whose only entertainment is printing out his poems, and sayings.  He also needs the printer to print out his checks, as it is very difficult for him to write them.

This is the second HP printer in recent years.  He's not fairing well with them, but he is used to using them, and it would be difficult for him to learn another product line.

Any suggestions out there?  Thanks in advance for any help.

One correction.  The printer is an HP Photosmart 7525.   my case number was [edited]

Well I contacted HP Support as recommended by Jeet_singh and was told there was NOTHING that could be done.  The printer could not be repaired.  We now have to purchase another printer because a thin piece of plastic film became dislodged and it appears NO ONE CAN REPAIR.

I was also told that HP no longer has any service centers.

Needless to say, I am not a happy camper. I will now be researching other printers to see how difficult it will be to teach this elderly gentleman a different interface/manufacturer.

I cannot have him purchase a third HP printer, to have it break down once it is out of warranty.  I really had hopes that someone would be able to tell me how to reattach this piece. It seems environmentally irresponsible on HP's part to expect people to just discard equipment because of such a seemingly minor failure.

Never again HP...
