i can't get my printer (D7400 series) to connect with my laptop (also an HP). Even though the printer shows online, the laptop keeps saying it can't connect because the printer is offline! HELP! I ran the trouble shooting and got an error code. The error code was 0x803C010B. I looked it up and did the whole unplug & replug bit, still not working. Thanks

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting printer offline error.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  6. Try to print.

Manually set the default printer.

  1. Search Windows for devices, and then click Devices and Printers from the list of results.

  2. Right-click the name of the HP printer that is active (not grayed out), and then select Set as Default printer.

Changing the gray icon to the color icon to be the default printer

  3. Try to print.

If the issue persists, Manually assign the printer IP address:

To view and print the network settings

1. Touch Setup on the display.

2. Touch Network.

3. Touch View Network Settings.

4. To print the network configuration page, touch Print Network Configuration Page.

Set a Static IP Address

  1. Run your Web browser.
  2. In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
  3. Click the Networking tab.
  4. Under Connections, click Wired.
  5. HP Printer Static IP Address
  6. Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
  7. Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
  8. Click Apply.
