I'm sorry that I am monopolising this forum with a deluge of questions,  but I may have found the problem.  The cables are from Staples store and likely they aren't the right ones. My mother had this printer before I got it and I don't recall her having to replace the original cable. As a result, the printer won't turn on. One end of the cable is a square that fits into the printer and the other end of it is a flat connecter that won't fit anywhere on my computer. Should I go to Staples and find a better cable? Staples is a store selling computers and every other product available. I believe they are only found here in Canada.

Thanks

If your cable looks like this, you have the right cable.

This is a Printer USB cable.  Your computer 'should' have a USB connector to fit.   Make and model of computer?
