Hi @IDS566,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 477dw is displaying an error related to an ink cartridge with a warranty expiration date, it usually indicates that the cartridge is not being recognized as valid by the printer. This can be due to several reasons, including cartridge age, compatibility issues, or firmware conflicts. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem:

1. Verify Cartridge Compatibility

  • Confirm Model: Ensure that the 972X cartridge you are using is compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 477dw. The 972X cartridges should be compatible with this model, but it’s always good to double-check.

2. Check Cartridge Expiry Date:

  • Ink Cartridge Expiry: If the cartridge is out of warranty, it might still work, but some printers are programmed to reject expired cartridges. Check HP’s official website or your printer’s manual for information on warranty and expiration.

3. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Turn Off Printer: Turn off and unplug the printer.
  • Remove Cartridge: Open the cartridge access door and remove the cartridge.
  • Clean Contacts: Gently clean the copper contacts on the cartridge and the corresponding contacts inside the printer using a lint-free cloth or cotton swab lightly moistened with distilled water. Allow them to dry completely before reinserting the cartridge.

4. Reinstall Cartridge

  • Reinsert Cartridge: After cleaning, reinstall the cartridge ensuring it clicks into place securely.

5. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Support website and check for any available firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet Pro 477dw.
  • Follow Instructions: Download and install the latest firmware to ensure that the printer recognizes the cartridge properly.

6. Reset the Printer

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in and turning it onAccess Settings: Go to Setup or Settings on the printer’s control panel.
  • Restore Defaults: Look for an option to Restore Defaults or Factory Reset and follow the instructions.

7. Check for Software Issues:

  • Device Manager: Go to Device Manager (press Win + X and select Device Manager), locate your printer, right-click it, and select Update driver.Uninstall and Reinstall: Uninstall the current printer driver from Control Panel > Devices and Printers, then reinstall the latest driver from the HP Support website.

8. Use Genuine HP Cartridges

Verify Cartridge Authenticity:

  • Check for Genuine Cartridges: Ensure that you are using genuine HP cartridges. Third-party or refilled cartridges might not be recognized by the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
