Officejet 3831
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Officejet 3831 was working fine with 3rd party cartridges . After a firmware update, the printer will no longer print.  message "The indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer". 

According to Which consumer group I have a right to use third party cartridges. Is there a solution for this action taken by HP?

I certainly do not intend to buy originals. And if HP doens't give me a proper solution, I will throw this machine in the container and will never buy anything anymore that carries the name HP.

@Nevensk, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

HP does not recommend the use of non-HP ink cartridges. It may or may not work. HP cannot guarantee its functionality.

To resolve any ink cartridge-related issues, refer to - HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge.

 

 

If the issue persists, you may visit Hp Store to check and order compatible HP ink cartridges.

That's unfortunate. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options if applicable.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

The printer was working fine with those cartridges, It was the update that HP send out that made sure it stopped working.

What I would like is to have the coreect firmware for this printer so my cartridges would still work.

If that's not possible, well no more HP for me as long as I may live.

I understand your concern. However, the firmware on the printer cannot be downgraded. The latest version available is 2021A, click here to check the same.

There are no other steps to perform.
