officejet 6830
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had an HP 6700 installed and successfully shared between two Win 10 systems.  When printer broke,I bought an HP 6830 and installed it on one of the systems.  Went well.  On second system, repeated steps, all went well.  Tried to print a random email from within Chrome, no results whatsoever.  Checked Control Panel printers, saw old printer was default, deleted old printer, selected new printer and set to default.  Tried to print email again, no results at all.  Double checked control panel printers, saw new 6830 is now default, tried print again, same result.

Can anybody help?

Thanks all for the help.   Since this is a new printer, I was able to do a live chat with an excellent tech from HP.  She took over the system, discovered that I had somehow checked the device shown as a fax as the default. That clearly explains what was happening.  We made the actual printer the default, and all was well.

Thanks again for the kind offers of help, which was so valuable.  Great job!  ...and an honorable mention to the actual problem solver at HP, Myra.

install goes well, hangs up waiting for hp page to complete process.  Long URL, something about ink reminders.  Have tried reinstall; HP Print Doctor.  Thought that during initial install, I chose to turn on data sharing when offered because need another system to access this network printer.  Can't seem to find that option again to try something else.

Seemed to be installed and working on first Win 10 system, installed OK on second system, but couldn't print anything.

Totally lost here!  Any ideas?

Hi @halwho,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you're trying to get your new HP Officejet 6830 Printer working on the second computer. I would be happy to assist you with this.

In order for me to assist you better, I will require more information.

  1. How is the printer connected?
  2. When you say "shared", are you referring to "printer sharing" in Windows?
  3. Are you able to print from the first computer?
  4. Are you able to print from other applications on the second computer?

When you installed the HP Software did you install it as the administrator or are you doing a remote install from another PC?

NOTE: The HP Software requires Full Control to install correctly.

If you need further assistance, please let me know the following information above. I look forward to hearing from you. Good Luck! 🙂
