I recently filled the ink on my HP Neverstop Laser MFP but neglected to close the door you put the cartridges in. When I try to scan a document, I am getting a "black ink replenishment" error message. I don't think my level is low but could it have dried out by leaving that door open?

Hi @KathleenA1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Leaving the door open after refilling the ink shouldn't cause the ink to dry out, but it might affect the printer's ability to recognize that the ink refill was properly completed. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the "black ink replenishment" error:
Step 1: Ensure the Door is Properly Closed
Make sure that the door where you put the ink cartridges is completely closed.
Step 2: Reset the Ink Replenishment System
The HP Neverstop Laser MFP has a system to reset the ink levels after a refill. You may need to reset this system.
- Turn Off the Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer.
- Open the Ink Refill Door: Open the door where you refill the ink.
- Check the Cartridge: Ensure the ink cartridge is properly installed and seated correctly.
- Close the Door: Close the ink refill door securely.
- Turn On the Printer: Press the power button to turn on the printer.
- Reset the Ink Level: Follow the instructions in your printer manual to reset the ink level. This usually involves pressing and holding a specific button or combination of buttons.
Step 3: Check for Firmware Updates
Ensure that your printer firmware is up to date, as updates can resolve many issues.
- Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Support website.
- Search for Your Printer Model: Enter your printer model and look for firmware updates.
- Download and Install: Follow the instructions to download and install any available updates.
Step 4: Perform a Printer Reset
Performing a reset can sometimes clear errors and restore normal operation.
- Turn Off the Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer.
- Unplug the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
- Wait: Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect and Turn On: Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.
Step 5: Check for Software Updates
Ensure your printer software and drivers are up to date.
- Open HP Support Assistant: If you have HP Support Assistant installed, open it and check for updates.
- Update Drivers: Install any available updates for your printer software and drivers.
Step 6: Inspect the Refill Process
Ensure that the ink was correctly refilled and that there were no errors in the process.
- Refer to Manual: Check the printer manual for the correct refill procedure.
- Verify Cartridge Installation: Make sure the cartridge is installed correctly and securely.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
