I have a new laserjet M234sdw i have just finished setting up.  I have the printed connected via USB to my desktop computer and then set up the wireless function using my phone (my desktop is not wireless so I cannot ditch the USB).  I was hoping to keep the wireless an option to print from my other devices and not just the desktop.  My desktop is running windows 11.

My issue is when I was testing the 2 siding printing it would give me a code 49 and only print one page - the first page if multiple 2 sided pages.  I understand that is a communication code and it clears when I turn off  the printer and back on.  However, I had another 2 sided document in the queue and when it turned back on the document printed fine both sides.  So I sent the document again and it printed fine.  3rd time I got error 49 again.

Tried whole situation again and same idea however I noticed as long as the wifi blue light was flashing (connecting) the documents were fine.  If I wait for the blue light to turn solid I get the error.  It will print single sided fine with the wifi on, but just not 2 sided.  If I turn off the wifi (not blue light at all) I can double sided print to my hearts content.

Now I do not really need 2 sided printing and I probably will just turn off the duplexing, but I was wondering if there is an easy fix for this so that I can have the best of both worlds.

I also have not tried duplexing yet through wifi - I want to get my desktop working correctly first.

Thanks for any insights - I am just stumped with this issue

Hi @emagmatt,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If you are experiencing issues with double-sided (duplex) printing on your new HP LaserJet M234sdw from a Windows 11 PC, you can follow these steps to troubleshoot the problem:

Check Printer Settings:

  • Open the print dialog when attempting to print a document.
  • Look for the printer settings or preferences. Ensure that the option for double-sided or duplex printing is selected.

Driver Update:

  • Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers/firmware installed on your Windows 11 PC. Outdated or incompatible drivers can sometimes cause printing issues.
  • Visit the HP official website to download and install the latest drivers for your LaserJet M234sdw model.

Paper Tray Configuration:

  • Confirm that the paper tray is loaded with the correct paper size and type that matches the print job settings. Some printers may not support duplex printing with certain paper types.

Driver Settings:

  • In the printer driver settings, make sure that the paper type and size are configured correctly to match the physical paper loaded in the printer.

Manual Duplex Printing:

  • If the automatic duplex printing option is not working, you can try selecting the manual duplex printing option. This will prompt you to flip the pages and reinsert them into the printer for the second side.

Check for Duplex Unit Issues:

  • Ensure that the duplex unit (if your printer has one) is functioning correctly. Check for any paper jams or obstructions in the duplex unit that may be preventing double-sided printing.

Test with Another Application:

  • Try printing from a different application to rule out any software-specific issues. Sometimes, the problem may be related to the software you are using to print.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I have tried all the trouble shooting steps - I will check to see if the driver is updated again to be sure.  2 sided printing does work fine - I can print in any way I want so long as the wireless connection is turned off (no blue light) even though I am not printing wirelessly as soon as wireless is on it prints one page and gives the error.  The paper is pulled back in to print the 2nd page and comes back out blank on the 2nd side and the job ends.  For now I have the wireless off and everything works fine - I was just curious to see if anyone else has had this issue and knows a fix.  Later I may disconnect the USB cable and try with my other computer to print 2 sided to see if it will double side only on wireless.....

Hi @emagmatt ,

We are sorry that the issue was not resolved when the above troubleshooting steps were performed.

You mentioned that, "You try with my other computer to print 2-sided to see if it will double-side only on wireless" " If that does not work, then this might require one-on-one interaction to fix the issue via remote assistance.
