I can't even figure out how to begin troubleshooting this:
I've had the OfficeJet 7612 about a year and I use it with a USB cable most of the time. But it is on the wireless network and we use it from a Macintosh in another room from time to time. It has worked perfectly until today and there has been no change in the printer, the Windows machine it is attached to, or the Macintosh. It gets stranger:
- The OfficeJet works fine via USB.
- The OfficeJet works fine over the network from the Windows machine. And there have been no network problems.
- The Macintosh says it is looking for the printer but cannot find it; then it says it cannot communicate with it.
- The Mac's printer utility says the OfficeJet is idle.
- When I go to the localhost, it says that the OfficeJet is idle, accepting jobs, not shared. No indication of any problem. Naturally I tried sharing tho I knew it had never been shared from the Mac. No difference of course, so I unchecked that box.
And I don't know where to go from there. Any suggestions?

Hi,
Try removing the printer and then re-adding it by opening the preferences tab and then selecting "printers & scanners".
From there, click the minus sign under the printer icon to remove the printer and then re-add it using the plus sign.
This often helps if you are experienceing printer offline issues.
If you still can't find the printer, I would try the steps with the usb connected and if a wireless connection is established, then remove it.
If the issue persists, restart your mac and try again and if this doesn't help, then restart your router also.
